Ja hi ha veredicte. El Tribunal Internacional de Justícia de La Haia considera que la decisió unilateral de Kósovo de separar-se de Sèrbia no viola el dret internacional general, ni la resolució 1244 del Consell de Seguretat de l'ONU (del 1999), ni el marc constitucional. És una victòria clara per Kósovo perquè, tot i que la sentència no és vinculant, el Tribunal ho ha expressat sense ambigüitats:
V. GENERAL CONCLUSION
122. The Court has concluded above that the adoption of the declaration of independence of 17 February 2008 did not violate general international law, Security Council resolution 1244 (1999) or the Constitutional Framework. Consequently the adoption of that declaration did not violate any applicable rule of international law.
